Every good BBQ dish starts with a good sauce, and this smoky-sweet version comes together in 15 minutes with pantry staples. Keep a jar in the fridge — it makes everything from cauliflower to jackfruit to chicken taste like summer.

Ingredients
  

  • cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 3 tablespoons tamari
  • 3 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon 1olive oil (optional)

  • Small saucepan

Method
 

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.Remove from the heat and allow the sauce to cool completely.Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Notes

This BBQ sauce pairs well with grilled vegetables, jackfruit, tofu, tempeh, chicken, burgers, and sandwiches.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
