Shimmy and Shine with Hannah

Move every part of you in a fun and feminine way through Shimmy and Shine belly dance fusion classes with Hannah Romanowsky! Join me for an eclectic, heart-warming blend of world music and dance. You will relish in the pleasure of captivating rhythms, flowing melodies, and alluring movements to enliven your soul. We will open the spine, release the hips, and take a journey through the rich aesthetic landscape of dance and music from the Silk Road, the Middle East, and beyond.

Engaging and enchanting choreography will be taught drawing from the colorful palette of global dance traditions. You will learn belly dance technique, traditional dances, and styling from Turkey, Iran, Morocco, India, Egypt, Spain, and more – Romanza Dance style! Some dance experience is helpful, but beginners are warmly welcomed. Come Shimmy & Shine!

Each month features a new dance genre and choreography. Past workshops include: Sensual tango fusion, Veil dance rumba, Elegant and joyful Persian, Balkan and Russian Romani, Turkish 9/8, Baba Karam Iranian dance, Flamenco fusion and Zambra

Dance Biography

Hannah Romanowsky, MA, is a performing artist, teacher, and choreographer with over 20 years of professional experience in the international dance arts. Founder of the DanceVersity youth multicultural arts education program and the Scheherazade School of Dance & Sacred Movement, Hannah has consulted for educational and artistic programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and is valued for her expertise in world dance traditions. She is known for her warm, engaging teaching style and her unique blend as a dance educator and cultural arts advocate, entertainer, and inspiring creative artist.

As a performing artist Ms. Romanowsky has been a featured at some of the most prestigious venues in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, including the Asian Art museum, de Young museum, Legion of Honor, multiple appearances in the Ethnic Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts, as well as the Houston Museum of Modern Art, the British Museum in London, and international arts festivals and studios in Asia and Europe. She was on faculty at the Afsaneh Dance Academy, featured artist with Ballet Afsaneh under the directorship of Sharlyn Sawyer, founding member of the Wan-Chao Dance ethno-contemporary dance company, and a core member of the Aywah! Ethnic Dance Company under the directorship of Katarina Burda.

Hannah has performed for Google, FaceBook, Benefit Cosmetics, Oracle, Salesforce, Lawrence Livermore Labs, Oakland Ballet, as well as for numerous celebrities, wineries, charities, fundraisers, academic institutions and private events in the San Francisco bay area and beyond. She performs regularly for Persian and Central Asian wedding and other community events across the United States, offering uplifting and authentic dance entertainment as well as educational presentations, master classes, and workshops.

Hannah lives north of San Francisco in Petaluma CA where she consults, coaches clients, and teaches weekly community classes in Sonoma County and online. She is specialist in dance from the Silk Road and Middle East and teaches specialty workshops in Romani, Persian, Turkish and Arabic dance. Hannah loves creating fusion choreography with her Dunyazade Dance Ensemble. When not cooking up fun on the dance floor, you can find her dancing in the kitchen! Her speciality performance act is her Dancing Salad show, where she prepares a delicious and satisfying salad while executing a playful and elegant dance!
