I’ve been a professional performing artist, movement arts consultant, choreographer, and teacher for over 25 years. I grew up on the stage, immersed in the classical western dance arts, and engaged in community musical theater productions throughout my youth. Later, my interest in anthropology, history, culture, religion, and psycho-spiritual healing practices drew me to study dance from the Near East, North Africa, and Central Asia and obtain degrees in Dance Ethnology and East-West Psychology.
As a performing artist, I frequently performed for weddings and other community events and partook in different cultural rituals and traditions. Food often played a central role in these festivities, and I came to view each cultural form of dance and music as a unique kind of medicine and spiritual nourishment. I liken music to the scent and taste of food, inspiring the dance that digests emotions.
Biological diversity promotes the healing of our planet, just as dietary diversity promotes the healing of our body. The more choices we have, the greater our capacity for adaptation and healing. It brings me joy to inspire others to move their bodies in new ways, explore the embodied healing arts from different cultural perspectives, and teach people how to make nourishing meals that feed the body and soul. Movement, music, and nourishing food – and I would add beauty, art, nature, healing touch, laughter, and community – are keys to healthy living, So let’s add some flavor and color to your life. Let’s get cooking!
