Longing to reconnect, recharge, and revivify your body and soul while exploring authentic dance techniques with an ancient lineage? Experience the joy of community dance inspired by therapeutic and mystical traditions from Central Asia, the Near East, and North Africa with Hannah Romanowsky. Women and men are both welcomed. No previous experience necessary!
What to bring: Comfortable clothing you can move in, water bottle, snacks, journal and pen (if you like to take notes), dance slippers or slip-proof socks for turning (I’ll bring extras).
- Learn and practice Guedra, a Tuareg community blessing ritual involving clapping, chanting, and dancing with symbolically meaningful gestures and finger pulsations. The dancer, or guedra, enters the sacred circle and becomes a conduit to Divine energy, spreading goodwill and healing through her hands out to her community.
- Learn the techniques of whirling, an ecstatic practice and movement mediation used by various cultures throughout time to connect to Spirit, including the ancient Wu shamans of China and the Mevlevi Sufi order in Turkey. (This activity is self-paced and adaptations will be offered.)
- Each session will close with traditional community circle dances, symbolic of unity, protection, and group cohesion, and one of the the oldest forms of dance recorded in human history.
Last Sunday of the month, 1-4pm.
